HMWR Hospital Offers Safe Sitter® Program|
CLEBURNE, Texas – While a comprehensive training manual has yet to be invented for parents, a training manual is available to teenagers ages 11 to 13 who are interested in babysitting to earn extra money. Harris Methodist Walls Regional Hospital (HMWR) is offering Safe Sitter® classes this summer to teach adolescent babysitters how to handle crisis, how to keep their charges secure, and how to nurture and guide a young child.
“Babysitting is a huge responsibility,” said Marvin Cloud, certified Safe Sitter® instructor and coordinator of clinical nursing at HMWR. “This course helps the babysitters understand what is involved and how to handle most situations, and parents can feel confident that their babysitter has been properly trained.”
The course includes basic first-aid, rescue skills, behavioral management techniques, how to handle emergencies when they arise.
The 6 ½-hour classes will be taught by a certified Safe Sitter® instructor on Saturday, May 17, with additional classes throughout the summer. There is a $49 cost to cover the materials and class sizes are limited. To register, call 1-888-4-HARRIS.
