HMEC Offers Safe Sitter® Program|
STEPHENVILLE, Texas – While a comprehensive training manual has yet to be invented for parents, a training manual is available to teenagers ages 11 to 13 who are interested in babysitting to earn extra money. Harris Methodist Erath County is offering a Safe Sitter® class this summer to teach adolescent babysitters how to handle crisis, how to keep their charges secure, and how to nurture and guide a young child.
“Babysitting is a huge responsibility,” said Jennifer McMeens, certified Safe Sitter instructor and perinatal educator at Harris Methodist Erath County Hospital. “This course helps the babysitters understand what is involved and how to handle most situations, and parents can feel confident that their babysitter has been properly trained.”
The classes will be taught by a certified Safe Sitter instructor on June 9-10, July 14-15 and August 11-12. There is a $40 cost to cover the materials and classes are limited to 12 students. To register, call 1-888-4-HARRIS.
Classes are also available by appointment for groups such as Sunday School classes and Girl Scouts.
