26 Texas Health Resources Nurses Named to 'Great 100' List|
ARLINGTON, Texas — Nurses at Texas Health Resources system hospitals account for more than one in four of the 2011 “Great 100 Nurses,” an annual award recognizing the best of the nursing profession in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
One of the 26 Texas Health nurses named to the prestigious list is Suzanne Myers-Phariss, B.S.N., R.N., C.E.N., who works in the intensive care unit at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Rockwall.
“This recognition is especially meaningful because it was generated by both my nursing and physician colleagues,” said Myers-Phariss. “This honor will be my daily affirmation and a remembrance of my mother. The compassionate treatment she received during the illness that led to her death guided me into the wonderful world of nursing.”
The nurses include representatives from eight hospitals as well as Texas Health’s chief nursing executive, Joan Clark, M.S.N., R.N., N.E.A.-B.C., C.E.N.P., F.A.C.H.E., F.A.A.N. One of Texas Health’s Great 100 honorees is being recognized posthumously. Shelli Castellanos, B.S.N., R.N.C.-OB., an antepartum and labor and delivery manager at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano, passed away on Jan. 26.
“Every day our patients benefit from the compassion, skills and plain hard work of Texas Health nurses,” said Douglas D. Hawthorne, CEO of Texas Health. “It’s touching to see the dedication and caring spirit of nurses such as Shelli Castellanos recognized with such a prestigious award from their peers.”
DFW Great 100 Nurses, Inc. annually sponsors the DFW Great 100 Nurses to recognize those who exemplify excellence in the art and science of nursing. The award is unique in that honorees do not have to belong to a particular professional organization or practice in a particular clinical specialty to be recognized. Any registered nurse whose place of employment is within the TNA’s districts may be nominated by their peers and then ultimately selected by the TNA’s Nurse Executive Group for the award.
The “Great 100 Nurses” will be honored by TNA Districts 3 and 4 and by the North Texas Organization of Nurse Executives at the 21st annual gala on April 27 at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas.
