Texas Health Stephenville to Host Blood Drive, Book Fair|
STEPHENVILLE, Texas — The weather is warming up, and what better way to about take a few minutes out of a pretty day to help save a life? Or spend a lazy afternoon than curled up outside with a book?
Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville will host a blood drive on Monday, April 4, and a book and gift fair on Tuesday, April 5.
The blood drive will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the helipad parking lot across from Texas Health Stephenville. The blood drive will be held with the support of Carter BloodCare.
Why donate? Someone in the United States needs blood every two seconds, according to the American Red Cross, but only five percent of the eligible U.S. population gives blood each year. Blood is needed for emergencies, people who have cancer, blood disorders, sickle cell anemia and other diseases, according to the Red Cross.
Anyone in the community who is 17 or older, weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good health is welcome to donate blood. Donors must bring photo identification to participate.
The book and gift fair hosted by the Auxiliary will be held from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Belknap lobby of Texas Health Stephenville. A range of materials — from children’s books to publications for adults — will be available.
“We are thrilled that our hardworking volunteers and members of the Auxiliary at Texas Health Stephenville provide this opportunity several times a year,” said Mike Hannah, director of pastoral care at Texas Health Stephenville.
A percentage of the proceeds from the book fair will be given to the Auxiliary to fund ongoing projects. The Auxiliary raises money to complete projects such as waiting room renovations and other improvement efforts for the hospital.
