Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas Nuclear Medicine Department Recognized by American College of Radiology|
DALLAS — The Nuclear Medicine Department at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas has been accreditation by the American College of Radiology, a designation that reflects the highest levels of quality and safety.
To earn the prestigious accreditation, Texas Health Dallas’ Nuclear Medicine Department and its employees recently went through a comprehensive, 90-day review by examiners with the ACR, the largest and oldest accrediting body for imaging center in the United States. The professional organization is made up of more than 34,000 physicians around the country.
“The ACR gold seal means that imaging tests done here meet the highest standards of imaging quality and radiation safety,” said Anup Agarwal, CNMT, ARRT, MS, MBA, manager of nuclear medicine at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. “It’s a demanding review process that examines everything we do. Earning the accreditation reflects our hospital’s commitment to providing the best diagnostics and treatment technologies to patients.”
Texas Health Dallas’ nuclear medicine department houses multiple gamma cameras, a Siemens SPECT/CT camera and a Skylight gantry-free nuclear camera platform. Clinicians can use the fused SPECT/CT data sets to facilitate localization of pathology or can acquire the individual data sets in a single imaging session, improving workflow and patient comfort, Argawal said.
Every aspect of the ACR accreditation process is overseen by board-certified radiologists and medical physicists, with training in advanced diagnostic imaging. Texas Health Dallas voluntarily went through the ACR’s rigorous evaluation, Agarwal said.
“Our Nuclear Medicine technologists, medical physicists and the physicians on the hospital’s medical staff are committed to constantly improving the care we provide,” he added. “They participate in ongoing education for Nuclear Medicine imaging and many have advanced certifications to perform medical imaging, interpret images and administer radiation therapy treatments.”
The accreditation process includes an inspection of all cameras, with images submitted to the ACR for review.
