Speed Clinic at H•E•B Fitness Center Boosts Youth Confidence On and Off Field|
BEDFORD, Texas — When Jim Gnacinski enrolled his two sons in a local youth running clinic, he witnessed their performance gains in soccer, football, basketball and baseball — and unexpectedly — in the classroom.
“I have seen their performance and confidence grow because of the clinic, and not just in sports,” said the Keller resident. “It has carried over into their schoolwork and other areas of their lives. The program has taught them to be leaders.”
Gnacinski's sons, 12-year-old Jacob and 7-year-old Noah, have reaped the benefits of a speed clinic run for the past year by Harris Methodist H•E•B Hospital’s fitness center supervisor Mike Moore.
For the first time, Moore is hosting the clinic at Harris Methodist H•E•B Hospital’s fitness center on June 21 to help kids and teens build speed, confidence and agility, and fare well in today’s highly competitive youth sports arena. The sooner kids receive Moore’s speed and agility training, the better they will perform in sports down the line, he said.
“There is a need for kids and teens in competitive sports to start off on the right foot — literally,” Moore said. “This program helps build a good foundation for speed and proper running form that will benefit them through high school years and beyond.”
The clinic — not just for athletes — can help kids and teens of all fitness levels perform better in gym class and improve overall health. When kids gain confidence in their athletic ability early, they’re more likely to stay active and spend less time doing sedentary activities like playing video games, Moore said.
“Games and sports are a lot more fun when you’re fast,” Moore said. “No one likes to be picked last for a team.”
