Weight Loss Surgery Program at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano Recognized as Center of Excellence for Second Time|
PLANO, Texas — Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano’s Weight-Loss Surgery program has been recognized for the second time as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society for Bariatric Surgery.
To earn the recognition, Texas Health Plano’s program underwent a review of clinical practices, outcomes and compliance with the organization’s standards. Also part of the criteria is providing follow-up treatment for up to five years after surgery.
Texas Health Plano performs more than 200 bariatric procedures a year, with the most popular procedure right now being the gastric sleeve option.
“We continue to see more people of all ages seeking this option to take control of their lives,” said Dr. Joe Cribbins, medical director of the Texas Health Plano program and a bariatric surgeon on the hospital’s medical staff. “Being recognized again as a Center of Excellence validates the work that the surgeons on the medical staff and nurses do to care for our patients each day.”
Texas Health Plano has created a model where patients are offered support before, during and after their surgery. The hospital employs a bariatric coordinator who helps individuals seeking surgery navigate the process of finding a physician, scheduling appointments and answering questions along the way. The hospital also offers a support group for bariatric surgery patients. The group meets twice a month and typically more than 25 people come to swap stories and tips and share the experience.
“We are proud of the program that we’ve built that offers support to our patients not just when they’re here in the hospital for the procedure, but long after they’ve been discharged,” said Dr. Jeffrey Canose, president of Texas Health Plano. “This program is an example of how we strive to care for each patient — mind, body and spirit.”
