New Nuclear Medicine Camera at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Cleburne Cuts Test Time in Half, Boosts Patient Comfort|
CLEBURNE, Texas — Johnson County patients are now able to watch DVDs or listen to music while spending half the time undergoing diagnostic imaging as they did previously, thanks to a new nuclear medicine camera at Texas Heath Harris Methodist Hospital Cleburne.
The Siemens Symbia-S camera offers patients advanced technology such as Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) imaging, which provides 3-D imaging for enhanced diagnosis and treatment of disease. The camera’s dual head reduces a patients’ time on the imaging table by 50 percent.
The camera was installed last month and provides significant benefits over previous technology, according to Lee Lennington, the hospital’s radiology director.
“Along with its patient-friendly features, the new camera helps physicians diagnose more patients and improve disease detection,” said Lennington. “The new technology increases both image quality and patient comfort level, so our staff can provide better care with higher patient satisfaction.”
SPECT imaging enables greater accuracy for diagnostic procedures such as bone and parathyroid scans without additional injections or radiation to the patient. SPECT is essential for nuclear cardiology workups and can even be used for whole body scans. The images can be overlaid with data from other imaging modes, such as CT scans, to further enhance diagnostic capabilities and quality.
Patients can bring their favorite movies to watch on the machine’s entertainment system, making for a more comfortable and pleasant experience, according to Lennington. “Patients who are normally apprehensive about procedures tend to relax when they find out they can watch a DVD or listen to music of their choice.”
“Our new nuclear medicine camera is a great example of how we’re helping make health care human again,” said Blake Kretz, FACHE, hospital president. “To be able to provide high quality care and increase patient satisfaction is what we’re all about.”
