Texas Health recognized Zerwas, an anesthesiologist, for his leadership and efforts this past legislative session that supported hospitals. Since 2005, Texas Health has recognized public servants who have made significant contributions to the public health and well-being of our communities.

“There is no one more deserving of this award than Rep. John Zerwas,” Canose said. “A physician for more than 30 years, Rep. Zerwas is one of three doctors in the Texas House of Representatives at a time when state-supported health services are under intense pressure from demographic changes and sources of funding. With his background as a physician, and his pragmatic approach to the issues, he looked for innovative ways to overhaul the health care payment system and tie provider reimbursement more tightly to quality and outcomes measures.”
