Pathway to Excellence Designation Awarded to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville
02/09/2012

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville has achieved Pathway to Excellence┬« designation from the American Nurses Credentialling Center (ANCC). Texas Health Stephenville is one of only 75 hospitals in the U.S. to earn the designation, which is granted to health care organizations that create a work environment that supports nurses.

Pathway to Excellence® designation

“We are thrilled to have earned this designation and appreciate the support and feedback from our nurses to make our hospital a place they enjoy working at each day,” said Cindy McCarthy, M.B.A., M.H.A., B.S.N., CEN, chief nursing officer at Texas Health Stephenville. “I am proud to be part of such a great team of nurses who make patient safety and quality a priority in all that they do.”

To achieve the Pathway to Excellence designation, hospitals must foster an environment where nurses can excel in their practice. Efforts to improve the quality of care provided to patients also are reviewed, as are the hospital’s policies, procedures and culture. Nurses at the hospital completed a survey discussing their satisfaction with Texas Health Stephenville and identifying it as a best place to work.

“A major reason for our positive environment for nurses is that we combine our traditional ‘family taking care of family’ approach with the extensive support and resources of the Texas Health system,” said Devra LeFevre, R.N.C.-OB, Texas Health Stephenville’s director of women’s services. “This means our nurses can take advantage of Texas Health’s benefits and opportunities for education, advancement and networking while working at a hospital that truly emphasizes patients, co-workers and community.”

Texas Health Stephenville was one of the first hospitals to achieve the Texas Nurses Association’s (TNA) Nurse-Friendly™ designation in 2005. The ANCC acquired the TNA program and broadened the designation to the national Pathway to Excellence program. Texas Health Stephenville completed a full re-designation process to earn its Pathway to Excellence recognition.

“At Texas Health Stephenville we have a strong commitment to try to provide the best working environment possible to all our employees and to the physicians on our medical staff,” said Christopher Leu, hospital president. “We appreciate that our nurses took the time to share their thoughts with the American Nurses Credentialling Center, and are honored that the ANCC recognized our hospital’s positive and nurturing environment for nurses.”

To celebrate, the public is invited to a Pathway to Excellence reception on Tuesday, Feb. 14, from 4 to 5 p.m., in the hospital’s Belknap lobby. The hospital is located at 411 North Belknap St. in Stephenville.
