Magnet Recognition Given to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano for Second Time|
PLANO, Texas — Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano has been recognized a Magnet® facility by the American Nurses Credentialing Center for the second time. Only 393 hospitals in the United States and only 13 in Dallas-Fort Worth have been recognized with Magnet designation.
“We place a high premium on the role of nurses at Texas Health Plano,” said Mike Evans, B.S.N., M.S.N, hospital president. “This wouldn’t have been possible without our nurses’ dedication to the mission of the organization to improve the health of the people in the communities we serve.”
The Magnet Recognition Program® is designed to highlight the role of nursing in hospitals by empowering nurses to identify and implement best practices and improve quality of care. Texas Health Plano was originally designated as a Magnet facility in 2007.
“We are very proud of the work of our nurses each day but especially to our steering committee who worked tirelessly to achieve Magnet recognition,” said Ray Kelly, R.N., M.S.N., chief nursing officer at Texas Health Plano. “To achieve Magnet recognition a second time nurses must complete an extensive and rigorous application process. We appreciate the work of our employees in accomplishing this great feat.”
In addition to creating an extensive written application, nurses at Texas Health Plano also completed a three-day, on-site review. The hospital achieved re-designation with no deficiencies. “I am proud to work in an organization where nurses actively seek ways to improve the care they offer to each patient and to utilize each other’s skills to increase quality,” said Kristin Whitehead, R.N., M.S.N., MBA, NE-BC, director of nursing administration, critical care services, wound and ostomy, and magnet program, who lead the re-designation process. “Ultimately all our support of nursing initiatives benefits the people we care about the most — our patients.”
