Regional Excellence Award Given to Nurse at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southwest Fort Worth|
FORT WORTH, Texas — Karen Bell, R.N., COHN-S, a nurse at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southwest Fort Worth, has received a 2012 Nursing Excellence Award from Nurse.com.
The award is part of an annual competition to honor superior nurses in nine regions around the United States. Bell competed in the Texas Regions and was one of five finalists in the Home, Community and Ambulatory Care category. The nominees were both nominated and judged by nurses.
Bell manages the occupational health department at Texas Health Southwest. Her wide-ranging duties include performing health screenings, ensuring that the clinical staff stays current on necessary vaccinations, serving as a safety consultant and providing direct care to employees who are ill or injured. She has been with Texas Health Resources since 1990.
“My focus is on caring for the people who are caring for our patients,” Bell said. “When our clinical staff is well, they are able to give our patients the best possible care. Then people know they can trust us to give them great medical care, and that's what it's all about. It's an honor to receive this award.”
Bell will now be considered for the Nurse.com "Nurse of the Year" award, competing against nominees from the eight other regions in the United States. Winners will be announced in November.
