Gold-Level Mother Friendly Worksite Designation, First in State, Given to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano|
PLANO, Texas — Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano is the first and only worksite in Texas to be named a Gold-Level Mother Friendly business. The designation is given by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
The Mother Friendly designation recognizes workplaces that offer employees time and a place to support breastfeeding. Organizations must provide flexibility to employees who are breastfeeding, a private area to pump, and a place to store breast milk for the duration of the employee’s workday. To earn gold level designation, workplaces must meet additional criteria such as having a hospital-grade electric pump in the breastfeeding support space and written policies with options that help mothers continue breastfeeding, such as telecommuting and onsite childcare.
“Texas Health Plano supports breastfeeding initiatives and providing access for breastfeeding mothers is just another way we care for our patients, their families and our employees,” said Mike Evans, B.S.N., M.S.N., hospital president. “Earning this designation goes hand in hand with the Baby Friendly Hospital designation that Texas Health Plano holds from the World Health Organization.”
Texas Health Plano also offers lactation support and breastfeeding supplies through the specialty store, A Mother’s Gift, on the hospital’s campus. The hospital also offers breastfeeding education and support groups for new mothers.
