Texas Health Stephenville Offers Free Diabetes Classes on Sept. 24|
STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville will offer free classes on managing diabetes on Monday, Sept. 24. Class topics include:
Classes will be held in the Texas Health Stephenville Community Outreach Center (Outreach building #2) at 752 North Graham Street.
“Education can help patients and families better manage life with diabetes,” said Ellen Wells, R.D., L.D., clinical dietitian and diabetes educator. “Our classes can help patients develop diabetes management skills to live a healthier life.”
Topics discussed in the classes include healthy eating, keeping active, monitoring blood sugar levels, taking medication, and other subjects that help patients manage diabetes.
Gestational diabetes is a condition in which pregnant women without previously diagnosed diabetes exhibit high blood sugar levels. The class will help women better understand diabetes and how to manage it during pregnancy.
Texas Health Stephenville’s services for diabetes include self-management classes. Recognized by the ADA, the classes are customized for patients and offered on a flexible schedule. Patients must have a physician’s referral to begin the program.
The hospital also sponsors a diabetes support group. Monthly meetings feature an educational presentation. The meetings are free and held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month in the Community Outreach building.
