Texas Health Stephenville, CareFlite to Enhance Long-Distance Emergency Transport Services|
STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Erath County residents now benefit from greater availability of ground emergency ambulance transport from Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville to hospitals outside of the service area providing higher levels of care.
Effective Oct. 1, CareFlite has dedicated an ambulance for ground medical transports between Texas Health Stephenville and higher-level hospitals, such as Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth. For 911 calls, Erath County EMS and the city will continue to provide ambulance service to Texas Health Stephenville. The new ground ambulance is also available for 911 backup should the city or county systems need assistance.
For many years Erath County EMS has provided ground transport from Texas Health Stephenville to those higher-level facilities, with a round trip to Fort Worth sometimes taking more than three hours. “The addition of CareFlite long-distance ground transport capability frees up Erath County EMS ambulances for emergency transport in the county because the ambulances will not be absent due to regular runs to Fort Worth and Dallas,” said Texas Health Stephenville President Christopher Leu.
“This allows Erath County EMS to keep more ambulances and crew resources in the area to provide timely transport for local area patients needing emergency care,” said Leu.
“We’re honored to serve Erath County’s long-distance ambulance needs with the same dedication that we’ve provided in emergency air transport for many years. We will continue to work closely with Texas Health Stephenville to transport patients to facilities outside the local area to receive higher levels of care when needed,” said James Swartz, president and chief executive officer of CareFlite.
To support its ground ambulance service, CareFlite has established a ground ambulance station in Stephenville. CareFlite and Texas Hospital Stephenville, in conjunction with the Stephenville Chamber of Commerce, plan to hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 16. The event, which is open to the public, will be held at the Texas Health Stephenville helipad, at the corner of Graham Street and Tarleton Street. Following the ceremony, lunch will be served for all attendees.
