FORT WORTH, Texas — The American College of Radiology (ACR) has awarded the Breast Imaging Center of Excellence (BICOE) designation to the Virginia Clay Dorman Breast Care Center, located in Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southwest Fort Worth.

Texas Health Southwest is the first Texas Health hospital in Tarrant County to have earned this designation. As noted by the ACR, BICOE designation affirms that the breast care center “has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.”

The process to earn the designation is extensive. Not only must a facility fulfill the ACR’s mandatory mammography accreditation program, it also must earn accreditation in modules for stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided biopsy, all of which are voluntary accreditations.

Brett McClung, president of Texas Health Southwest, said the designation was a credit to the breast care center and the hospital. “We recently completed a major renovation and expansion of the breast care center,” he said. “Once that project was completed, we made the commitment to add new service lines and become a more comprehensive breast care center. We all are very proud of this achievement.”

Earning the accreditation was a team effort, Director of Radiology Kevin Spears said. “We have an outstanding group of individuals in the breast care center, including the medical director, Dr. Harpreet Talwar, the manager, Tricia Trammell, and all the employees. This designation affirms that when patients come to the Virginia Clay Dorman Breast Care Center, they can expect quality care and top-notch facilities from a knowledgeable and caring staff.”

The BICOE designation is the latest achievement for Texas Health Southwest. Last year, the hospital was designated a UnitedHealth Premium Surgical Spine Specialty Center and earned Pathway to Excellence Designation® from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Texas Health Southwest also is an accredited chest pain center and an accredited heart failure center.
