STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Have you or someone you know received exemplary care from a nurse at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville? You will soon have the opportunity to recognize compassionate care by Texas Health Stephenville nurses through nominating them for the prestigious DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

Texas Health Stephenville launched its participation in the DAISY Award program on Jan. 24. The program rewards and celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care given by nurses. About 1,000 health care organizations worldwide are collaborating with the DAISY Foundation to honor nurses through the prestigious program. Texas Health Stephenville will recognize one of its nurses with this special honor twice a year.

“Our nurses consistently demonstrate extraordinary clinical expertise and compassionate care,” said Cindy McCarthy, D.N.P., chief nursing officer at Texas Health Stephenville. “This is a wonderful opportunity to recognize exemplary role models in the nursing community.”

Patients, visitors, nurses, physicians and employees may nominate a deserving nurse by submitting a nomination form. Forms and collection boxes are located in the admission lobby and atrium lobby at Texas Health Stephenville. Nurses can also be nominated at TexasHealth.org/DAISY.

Nurses should be recognized as outstanding role models, fulfilling the following criteria:

• Serves as a role model for the nursing profession through loyalty and commitment.
• Strives to go above expectations in their role at Texas Health Stephenville.
• Develops key relationships and demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients, families and peers.
• Models empathy and demonstrates a caring attitude in all situations.
• Generates enthusiasm and energy toward meeting the challenges of professional nursing.

The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died of complications of an auto-immune disease. (DAISY is an acronym for “diseases attacking the immune system.”) Barnes’ family was awed by the care and compassion his nurses provided, not only to their patient but also to his family. Through the foundation the family aims to recognize extraordinary nurses who make a difference in the lives of so many people through their everyday work.
