Texas Health Tapped as Region's Healthiest Employer|
Texas Health Resources has been named No. 1 on the Dallas Business Journal's 2013 Healthiest Employers list. Awards were announced today during a luncheon in Dallas.
Among 20 large employers, Texas Health came out on top, with Baylor taking the No. 2 ranking, and Methodist Health System named as No. 5.
Bonnie Bell, executive vice president of People & Culture, accepted the award on behalf of Texas Health Resources.
"Our mission is to improve the health of the people in the communities we serve, and that includes our employees — the faces and voices that represent our organization, day-in and day-out," she said. "I could not be more proud of this honor, and of the tireless efforts of our human resources employees who lead and champion our BeHealthy programs. It has been such a pleasure to see Texas Health employees embrace the BeHealthy program."
Jessica Oliver, operations manager for Texas Health HEB's laboratory, was featured in a video that was shown during the awards presentation. Oliver lost more than 100 pounds through Weight Watchers @ Work, one of many offerings available through Texas Health's BeHealthy program.
At the time she joined, Oliver weighed 265 pounds and committed to a starting weight loss goal of five pounds. Her weight loss was dramatic the first year as she made healthy eating choices and started an exercise regime. She credits the structure and accountability of the Weight Watchers program for helping keep her on-track.
Oliver attended the event along with a handful of Texas Health employees and accompanied Bell to the stage to accept the award.
The Healthiest Employer awards program recognizes organizations committed to creating a healthy workplace. The award uses an online assessment tool and measures wellness programming in six key categories:
The program is conducted by Healthiest Employer, LLC, an Indiana limited liability company in association with the American City Business Journals, Inc. Employers are ranked by size and compete in categories for large, medium and small employer organizations. The online assessment automatically scores and ranks the applicant pool based on the weighted value of the completed answers.
