Texas Health Cleburne Recognized for Quality Care
03/28/2013

CLEBURNE, Texas — Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Cleburne is among the best in the nation at providing safe, reliable and efficient care, according to the country’s largest health care performance improvement alliance.

Texas Health Cleburne is one of only 48 out of 333 hospitals nationwide to achieve top performance in at least four of six areas of care in the Premier health care alliance’s QUEST: High Performing Hospitals collaborative.

“This is a great tribute to the employees and physicians of Texas Health Cleburne,” said Blake Kretz, FACHE, hospital president. “They are committed to applying lessons learned from hospitals around the country to improving care for the people in the community we’re privileged to serve.”

Specifically, Texas Health Cleburne is being recognized for:

  • Reducing mortality by at least 31 percent;
  • Improving the hospital experience so that patients favorably rate their stay and would recommend the facility to others at least 73 percent of the time;
  • Reducing preventable harm events; and
  • Reducing readmissions by at least 12 percent.

“We are encouraged by the way our collaborative effort with other high-performing hospitals has helped us reach higher levels of performance in key areas,” said Cindy Stepp-Gann, quality director for Texas Health Cleburne.

Participating hospitals set aggressive goals for rapid and sustained improvement; achieving excellence on a number of transparent measures; benchmarking performance against one another; and sharing knowledge to customize strategies that improve the quality, safety and effectiveness of care.

Since 2008, QUEST participant hospitals have used transparent and publicly available measures that show they have avoided 92,000 deaths and saved $9.1 billion in costs. Scaled to a national level, hospitals across the U.S. could save 950,000 lives and approximately $93 billion over five years by replicating these practices, according to Premier.

“Through working with other QUEST participants to help each other improve in areas such as quality, safety, patient satisfaction and cost of care, Texas Health Cleburne is enhancing health care not just in our community, but across the country,” Stepp-Gann said.
