Single-Incision Robotic Surgery Offered at Texas Health Denton|
DENTON, Texas — Performing surgery through a two centimeter incision in the belly button? It may sound like the stuff of movies, but the technology is available right here at home at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton.
Dr. Victor Cobos is the first surgeon in Denton using the daVinci SI Surgical Robot to remove a patient’s gallbladder through a 2 1/2 centimeter incision through the navel. Cobos, who is on the medical staff at Texas Health Denton, focuses on improving the patient experience as technology evolves.
“I continually strive to find faster, less painful and more efficient ways of caring for patients, which is why I am committed to minimally invasive surgery techniques,” Cobos said. “While robotic surgery and single incision surgery are not new, combining the two to remove the gallbladder allows for this paradigm shift.”
Each year, an estimated one million Americans are diagnosed with gallstone disease, according to the American Gastroenterological Association.
Not only can patients stay close to home with this procedure, but they often can return home within hours of the procedure.
“Combining robotic technology with the skill of physicians on our medical staff is just one way we show our commitment to the community,” said Stan Morton, hospital president. “Texas Health Denton utilizes new techniques that advance safe, quality patient care, but at the root of that technology adoption is the goal to care for patients near their homes.”
To share more about this procedure and other robotic surgery options, Texas Health Denton is hosting a free lunch seminar from noon to 1 p.m. on April 10. Dr. Cobos will be joined by Dr. Christina Dooley to talk about robotic surgery options during the presentation, Advances in Medicine: Gallbladder and Gynecological Diseases. The event is free but registration is required by calling 1-877-THR-WELL (1-877-847-9355).
