Texas Health Cleburne Employee Named Humanitarian of the Year

CLEBURNE, Texas — Linda Boysen, a licensed clinical social worker at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Cleburne, was recently named Social Worker Humanitarian of the Year during the 19th annual Social Worker Appreciation Luncheon on March 27 in Fort Worth.

Boysen, who said social work was her calling, has been with Texas Health Cleburne for more than 15 years. “I have the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life every day,” she said. “When you are given a calling, you honor God by knowing and doing all you can to be worthy of what he has given you.”

As Texas Health Cleburne’s social services coordinator, Boysen works with the hospital’s medical management team. Her post-patient care responsibilities include assisting patients with acute care and rehab options, along with helping families assess end-of-life decisions for their loved ones.

Boysen has volunteered at the HOPE Clinic in Cleburne and served on the Hood County Steering Committee for Habitat for Humanity. Boysen has also served as a mentor for both the Christian Women’s Job Corps and Acton Elementary School in Granbury.

A fifth-generation Texan, Boysen said her family came to the area when it was still part of Mexico. “I feel our cultures are so intertwined, I felt obligated to learn more about my heritage.”

So Boysen began taking Spanish courses. “For more than five years now, I’ve been learning and speaking the language so I can better serve our Hispanic population inside and outside the hospital walls.”

Prior to joining Texas Health Cleburne, Boysen worked for various health care organizations providing psychosocial assessments of home-health patients in Johnson County. She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Texas Wesleyan University and a master’s degree in social work from the University of Texas at Arlington.

To be considered for the Humanitarian of the Year award, recipients must possess at least 15 years of service as a social worker, display professional achievement and community leadership, and support the economic advancement of business and professional women.
