Texas Health Arlington Memorial Infection Prevention Director earns Distinguished Service Award|
ARLINGTON, Texas — Sue Sebazco, R.N., M.B.A., C.I.C., infection prevention director for Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital, has been recognized as one of the top professionals in her field.
Sebazco recently earned the prestigious Distinguished Service Award, which is given by the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC). Presented annually to an APIC member, the award recognizes outstanding professional contributions in a volunteer capacity at the national level.
“Sue serves as a key patient safety advocate by addressing infection prevention inside and outside the hospital walls,” said Kirk King, president of Texas Health Arlington Memorial. “Her unselfishness and willingness to promote patient safety locally and nationally is evident in the numerous roles she’s expertly served in. Her dedication should be applauded, and this award gives her the national recognition she deserves.”
Sebazco has served as the hospital’s infection prevention director since 1983. In addition, she served as APIC’s president in 2005, one of many positions Sebazco has held as a member of the international organization focused on promoting wellness and infection prevention. Over the years, Sebazco’s volunteer efforts and committee involvement within APIC have included:
Sebazco, who is regarded as a subject matter expert in the field of infection prevention, was appointed last year to serve on the Health care Associated Infections/Preventable Adverse Events Advisory Panel for the state of Texas.
“My involvement at the local and national level has resulted in numerous opportunities to grow personally and professionally in a health care specialty that I’m so passionate about,” Sebazco said. “I’m extremely humbled just to be considered, but being awarded for doing something I love makes this recognition all the more special.”
APIC’s selection is based upon a member’s ability to inspire commitment from others, along with his or her contributions to the advancement of patient safety and the science of infection prevention. Sebazco will be recognized in June during the organization’s annual conference in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
