05/28/2013

ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Health Resources has been named one of the “2013 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles” by the National Business Group on Health.

This marks the fourth year Texas Health Resources has received the award. For 2013, Texas Health again earned the Gold distinction for its commitment to promoting a healthy workplace and encouraging employees and their families to maintain healthy lifestyles through its “Be Healthy” employee wellness program.

“This year, we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of our Be Healthy wellness program,” said Carla Dawson, Texas Health’s senior director of Total Health and Total Rewards. “We are exceedingly proud of the depth and success of this program. Receiving this award as recognition for supporting the healthy lifestyles of our employees is yet another reason to celebrate.”

Texas Health is among 65 U.S. employers to receive the award, which is sponsored by the National Business Group on Health’s Institute on Innovation in Workforce Well-being. Gold award winners were honored for making cultural and environmental changes and developing comprehensive programs that support employees’ healthy lifestyle goals. The underlying goal of the award program is to encourage all employers to take action.

Through Be Healthy, part of Texas Health’s comprehensive benefits package, employees can earn up to $225 annually by completing elements of the program. Texas Health also offers many innovative ways to help employees better understand and manage their health: complex and chronic patient management; tobacco-cessation programs; on-site fitness centers; health fairs; fitness challenges; maternity support; lifestyle coaching; diabetes education; medical nutrition therapy; and on-site hospital case management. Employees also can take advantage of employee assistance and Weight Watchers at Work programs.

The National Business Group on Health is the nation’s only nonprofit membership organization of large employers that is devoted exclusively to finding solutions to employee health care and related benefits issues.

“We are pleased to honor Texas Health Resources for its ongoing commitment to providing lifestyle improvement programs that encourage healthy lifestyles for their employees,” said Helen Darling, president and CEO of the National Business Group on Health. “Texas Health Resources is among an elite group of organizations that are leading the way to promoting healthy workplaces and lifestyles. Texas Health and its management team should be proud of their commitment to their program and we congratulate them on receiving this award.”
