Texas Health Azle Recognized as Top Performer by Joint Commission

AZLE, Texas — Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Azle has been recognized as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by the country’s top accrediting agency for hospitals.

The hospital was recognized for exemplary performance in using evidence-based clinical processes to treat pneumonia and provide surgical care. The rating was based on an aggregation of accountability measure data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2012 calendar year.

“The commitment that our physicians, nurses and staff share for delivering quality care is unwavering,” said Mary Fonville, senior director of quality and risk management at Texas Health Azle. “We want to continually provide the members of this community with the best we have to offer.”

In addition to Texas Health Azle, Texas Health hospitals in Bedford, Arlington, Kaufman and Rockwall were recognized by The Joint Commission.

“Texas Health has an overarching commitment to quality that benefits patients across North Texas,” said Dr. Daniel Varga, chief clinical officer and senior executive vice president for Texas Health. “This recognition by The Joint Commission is a tribute to the strong emphasis our physicians and staff place on the quality of care for each patient.”

To be considered Top Performers, a hospital must score at least 95 percent in each accountability measure that it reports to The Joint Commission and for the specific measures outlined in this program. Each accountability measure represents an evidence-based practice. Examples include giving aspirin at arrival for heart attack patients or giving antibiotics one hour before surgery.

This year, 1,099 hospitals are being recognized, representing the top 33 percent of all Joint Commission-accredited hospitals reporting accountability measure performance data for 2012. The Texas Health hospitals are recognized in The Joint Commission’s “Improving America’s Hospitals” annual report and on accreditation organization’s Quality Check website, qualitycheck.org.
