HMWR Physician Named Medical Director of the Year for Team Health West|
CLEBURNE, Texas – Dr. Jonathan Walker, Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Harris Methodist Walls Regional Hospital (HMWR) of Cleburne, Texas was named the Medical Director of the Year for the medical group Team Health West. Walker has served with distinction since he joined the group in 2003.
Since assuming the role of medical director at HMWR, Walker served in a number of capacities both at the hospital and in the surrounding area. He was instrumental in solidifying the emergency department's status as a solid contributor and asset for the hospital.
The emergency department was instrumental in helping HMWR win the Total Benchmark Solution Top 100 Quality Award, earning recognition through the CMS “Pay for Performance” program in the top 20 percent, and also receiving the Texas Health Care Quality Improvement Award from the Texas Medical Foundation Health Quality Institute. Walker served on several of the committees that were essential to the hospital's recent success. He chairs the Emergency and Special Care Committee, sits on the Medical Executive Committee and helps oversee the Code Blue, Trauma and Safety committees among others.
“We are proud of Dr. Walker's accomplishment and are gratified to see him earn the recognition he deserves,” said Brent Magers, president of HMWR. “He is a shining example of the quality staff we have at our hospital.
Walker also represented the hospital during several quality improvement initiatives within its thirteen-hospital system, Texas Health Resources. He participated on committees focusing on the implementation of an electronic health record, developing a streamlined standardized transfer process for the hospitals in his system, and trauma care in the area. He also coordinated the expansion plans for his department which should begin construction this fall.
Walker's involvement has not been limited to the hospital. He worked with the area's EMS medical directors to help coordinate and standardize care from all the local EMS providers. He supervises numerous paramedic students as they rotate through the emergency department. Not only does he serve as the Trauma Director for his hospital, but he also oversees the local hazmat and disaster planning for the area. He helps coordinate and participates in all the local disaster drills, including those involving the area's nuclear power plant.
“He is an asset to the community,” said Magers.
