THR Announces Resignation of Brent Magers, President of Harris Methodist Walls Regional Hospital

ARLINGTON, Texas – Texas Health Resources (THR), parent organization of Harris Methodist Walls Regional Hospital (HMWR) in Cleburne, today announced the resignation of Brent Magers, FACHE, president of HMWR, effective Dec. 31, 2006.

“For a dozen years, Brent has faithfully served Harris Methodist Walls Regional Hospital and THR,” said Barclay E. Berdan, executive vice president for THR. “Under his leadership, the hospital received many national awards and countless recognitions, including the coveted “Nurse-Friendly" designation; the Texas Health Care Quality Improvement Award of Excellence; 100 Top Hospitals in America; and Accreditation with Commendation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, among others.”

Also during his tenure, Magers successfully recruited many new physicians to the HMWR medical staff and developed a master plan for the campus that resulted in the current expansion of the hospital's emergency room.

“Brent has been a strong and focused leader who has worked tirelessly to improve the health of the people in the Cleburne area,” said Douglas D. Hawthorne, president and CEO of THR. “We thank him for his years of service and wish him well in all of his future endeavors.”

In several face-to-face meetings with board trustees, physicians, employees and volunteers this week, Magers expressed his appreciation for the support he and his family have been given over the last dozen years, and said Cleburne is a great place to live and a wonderful community in which to raise a family.

To everyone who is a part of the HMWR family, he said, “I give credit to all of you for the many awards and accolades Walls has earned over the last several years. Your passion and commitment are unmatched. I know I'm leaving Walls Regional Hospital in great hands and that you'll continue to fulfill our mission and live out the THR Promise for our patients and their families.”

He added, “It gives me peace of mind to know that I'm going at a time when the hospital is well-positioned for the future. With the strong team we have in place and great collaboration we have with our board, physicians, the community and the senior leadership at THR, I feel confident that 2007 will be a bright and prosperous year for THR and Walls.”

Magers says he plans to remain at Walls through Thanksgiving, then he'll be enjoying the holidays with his family and taking some thoughtful time to consider future professional opportunities.

“I feel like I have had a great run with this organization, and for that I am so very grateful,” Magers said. “However, now it is time for me to make a professional change and the right time to begin a new era at Walls.

“It has been 12 rewarding years since I joined the Walls and THR family, and it truly has been my privilege to serve this hospital and this community,” Magers said.
