AMH First in Arlington with New MRI Providing Unprecedented Clarity|
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Imagine seeing images of your brain, leg or heart with the same precision and clarity of high-definition television. With the recent installation of Arlington Memorial Hospital's new $2.5 million 3.0 Tesla MRI, this level of technology and imaging is now a reality.
The hospital is the first in Arlington to provide patients with this advanced magnetic-resonance imaging (MRI) capability. The new MRI will specifically benefit neurological and orthopedic patients.
The scanner is the most powerful MRI device available today to patients in routine clinical use. Detailed patient anatomy displayed by the enhanced technology allows physicians to identify and make diagnoses faster and more efficiently, thanks to sharper and clearer images.
The improved images provided by this new technology can reduce the number of patient re-scans, decreasing the amount of time a patient must spend in the MRI.
"The new unit has twice the magnetic field strength of the other MRI unit, letting us see smaller structures with greater detail. It also has the latest image processing software with applications that were previously unavailable," said David Diffley, M.D., a radiologist on the medical staff at Arlington Memorial Hospital.
"Now we can map white-matter tracts of the brain for neurosurgeons, create images of the arteries of the arms and legs non-invasively, and perform MRI spectroscopy," Diffley said. "These features will provide more information and ultimately improve patient care."
