Harris Methodist Walls Regional to Host Blood Drive on Oct. 22
10/17/2008

CLEBURNE, Texas — A week before Halloween and they’re after your blood! Donations, that is.

Harris Methodist Walls Regional Hospital will host a blood drive to help boost supplies in Johnson County. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 22. Carter BloodCare will bring its mobile bus to the hospital.

Why donate? Every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood, according to the American Red Cross, but only five percent of the eligible population gives blood each year.

Blood is needed for emergencies, people who have cancer, blood disorders, sickle cell anemia and other diseases, according the Red Cross.

Anyone who is 17 years old or older, weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good health is welcome to donate blood. Donors must bring photo identification to participate.

“Blood drives are crucial for keeping the blood supply level to help patients with chronic diseases and those in emergency situations,” said Barney Benner, pharmacist at Harris Methodist Walls Regional Hospital. “Residents of Cleburne and the surrounding areas are always generous with our blood drives and we look forward to another successful effort.”
