KAUFMAN, Texas — Faylene Walker, R.N., specializes in helping women bring new life into the world as the night shift charge nurse in labor and delivery at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Kaufman. Walker admits that she cannot imagine a more rewarding job.

Her dedication to nursing has come with its own reward, as Walker received a spot on the “Great 100 Nurses” list, an annual award naming the best of the best in the nursing profession in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

“When I found out I had been named to the ‘Great 100,’ I was happy and very surprised,” said Walker. “This makes all of the hard work and time I put into my profession worthwhile. It was nice to know that I have been noticed.”

The Texas Nurses Association and the Dallas-Fort Worth Nurse Executives sponsor the “Great 100 Nurses,” which honors registered nurses in the area who exemplify excellence in the art and science of nursing. Nurses are nominated by their peers, and may only be named to the list once in their career.

“We are thrilled that Faylene is being recognized for her hard work,” said Patsy Youngs, president of Texas Health Kaufman. “Our women’s services department has been busier than ever for the past eight months and Faylene is always there with a commitment to excellence and a dedication to our new mothers and their families.”

In all, Texas Health Resources nurses won 29 of the 100 spots on the coveted list, accounting for almost one-third of the top nurses in the Metroplex — more than any other hospital or health system.

“It is nothing less than a coup,” said Douglas D. Hawthorne, CEO of Texas Health. “Our nurses set a high bar for each other, an example of excellence that is made up of hard work and dedication for every patient, every day. I am proud that their work was recognized among the best in our region.”

The “Great 100 Nurses” will be honored by the Texas Nurses Association, Districts 3 and 4, and the Dallas-Fort Worth Nurse Executives at the 19th annual gala on April 19th at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas.
