Texas Health Arlington Memorial Celebrates 25 Years of NICU Care|
ARLINGTON, Texas — Five-year-old triplets Alyssa, Bailey, and Cassidy Hays don’t recognize any nurses or doctors at the “hospital party” they look forward to each year.
But their mom, Tracy, will never forget.
“I know all of their faces,” Tracy Hays said of the staff that cared for her babies. “They made it such a wonderful experience for us.”
The triplets stayed in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital for six weeks after their birth learning the most basic function: eating. Nurses taught the babies how to breathe and swallow at the same time.
Now, the Hays family returns every year to celebrate with other NICU graduates and families at the hospital’s annual NICU reunion.
Texas Health Arlington Memorial will host its 25th annual NICU reunion from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 24 in the south atrium of the hospital. Two hundred guests are expected for the celebration, which gives children and their families a chance to reconnect with the doctors, nurses and staff who cared for them.
“It was a security to my husband Russell and me to have our babies in the NICU,” Tracy Hays said. “I knew they were in the best place they could possibly be.”
