11/30/2009

FORT WORTH, Texas — Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth and Centerre Healthcare Corporation (Centerre) are beginning construction on a 50-bed comprehensive acute freestanding rehabilitation hospital near Texas Health Fort Worth.

“Texas Health Fort Worth is a Level II trauma and stroke center of excellence. Our hospital currently has an inpatient rehab unit, but with limited bed space.” said Oscar L. Amparan, president of Texas Health Fort Worth. “We currently see a large volume of patients who will benefit from this new facility.”

Texas Rehabilitation Hospital of Fort Worth, a joint venture between Texas Health Fort Worth and Centerre Healthcare, will provide comprehensive inpatient treatment services for patients recovering from:

  • Strokes
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Complex orthopedic surgeries and injuries
  • Amputations
  • Hip fractures
  • Joint replacements
  • Other rehab appropriate conditions

Scheduled for completion in early 2011, the new facility will be built on 3.4 acres of land owned by Texas Health Fort Worth. The 58,800 square-foot rehabilitation hospital will provide a number of specialized services including nursing care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology and other related services.

Equipped with a therapeutic pool, a therapy gym with the latest equipment, a therapy courtyard and an “activities of daily living” training suite, this will employ 140 health care personnel including nurses, physical therapists, and administrative staff. Physical medicine, rehabilitation physicians and doctors with other medical specialties on the medical staff will also work closely with this team.

Texas Rehabilitation Hospital of Fort Worth will initially open with 50-beds, with the ability to expand up to 60 beds. It will also provide patients with more specialized therapy programs such as a dedicated brain injury unit and specialized stroke program.

“This advanced rehabilitation facility will be focused on treating patients who have suffered a devastating illness or injury with the goal of giving each patient the highest quality of life and level of independence possible,” said Patrick Foster, CEO of Centerre Healthcare. “We are thrilled to be joining Texas Health Fort Worth as we strive to improve the health of this community together.”
