'Great 100 Nurses' List Includes 35 from Texas Health Resources System Hospitals|
ARLINGTON, Texas — Nurses at Texas Health Resources system hospitals account for more than one-third of the 2010 “Great 100 Nurses,” an annual award recognizing the best of the nursing profession in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
One of the 35 Texas Health nurses named to the prestigious list is Stephanie Elder, R.N., C.C.R.N., B.S.N., who works in the cardiovascular intensive care unit (ICU) at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth. A former paramedic, Elder acknowledged the honor of being named one of the best local caregivers.
“Working in a busy ICU, there isn’t a lot of time to recognize the accomplishments you and your peers achieve on a daily basis,” said Elder. “This means the world to me to be nominated by my peers for caring for patients, and for the efforts of teaching younger nurses to raise the bar in the care they give.”
Texas Health’s 35 nurses on the list is the highest total for any hospital or health system in North Texas. The nurses include representatives from nine hospitals and a nurse educator in the Texas Health Resources Center for Learning and Career Development.
“Texas Health nurses are the compassionate face of health care to our patients,” said Douglas D. Hawthorne, CEO of Texas Health. “I’m thrilled to see so many of our star caregivers recognized for setting the standard of excellence in their vital profession.”
DFW Great 100 Nurses, Inc. annually sponsors the DFW Great 100 Nurses to recognize those who exemplify excellence in the art and science of nursing.
The award is unique in that honorees do not have to belong to a particular professional organization or practice in a particular clinical specialty to be recognized; any registered nurse whose place of employment is within the TNA’s districts may be nominated by their peers and then ultimately selected by the TNA’s Nurse Executive Group for the award.
The “Great 100 Nurses” will be honored by TNA Districts 3 and 4 and by the Dallas-Fort Worth Nurse Executives at the 20th annual gala on April 14 at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas.
