STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville’s Wound Care Services has been named a Center of Distinction. The award recognizes wound care programs that post high patient satisfaction scores, show good healing results and demonstrate good clinical outcomes.

Since opening in November 2006, Texas Health Stephenville’s Wound Care Services team treats patients with chronic non-healing wounds.

“We are excited for the great work of Texas Health Stephenville’s Wound Care Services to be recognized,” said Christopher Leu, hospital president. “The physicians on the medical staff and the employees in Wound Care Services are dedicated to improving the lives of the patients we serve.”

Wound Care Services is an outpatient program that provides treatment for debilitating wounds that often haven’t healed after months or even years. The specialized treatments at the center often can get people back to normal, everyday life often within a matter of weeks and months.

“So many of our patients have been living with wounds that haven’t healed and are significantly impacting their quality of life,” said Patty Weidemann, program director. “We invite anyone who has been living with a wound that simply isn’t healing to call to see if wound care services could help. We offer patients an individualized care plan that focuses on specialized wound care treatments. These specialized treatments can heal some wounds that have not responded to other treatments.”

An estimated eight million Americans suffer from chronic wounds, according to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Chronic wounds can be exacerbated by many different medical conditions. The healing rate at the Stephenville center during the last 12 months is 96 percent, which is higher than the national average of 89 percent.
