Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Cleburne Recognizes Nursing Staff with Quality Awards|
CLEBURNE, Texas — Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Cleburne employees and physicians on the medical staff focus each day on providing quality care for patients. Recently, Texas Health Cleburne named nursing quality winners for 2010.
Each year Texas Health Cleburne solicits nominations from employees of the hospital. Employees write essays about why their colleagues are deserving of a quality award. Then, a panel of nurses at the hospital reviews the essays and selects the quality winners. The 2010 winners are:
The awards were presented during Nurses Week. The hospital hosted an evening awards ceremony to recognize the contributions of nursing staff throughout the hospital.
“We are thrilled to recognize the great work that nursing staff and our hospital employees perform each day at Texas Health Cleburne,” said Cindy Plonien, R.N., M.S.N., chief nurse officer at the hospital. “It was difficult to choose winners of our quality awards this year because we had so many entries that spoke to the focus our staff has on being advocates for their patients and delivering compassionate care each day.”
Pat Bonds, the first chief nursing officer at Texas Health Cleburne, spoke to the crowd about her experience in nursing. “Most nurses spend the best years of their lives nursing,” she said. “We never really retire. It’s an honor to be known as a nurse.”
Bonds inducted the newest members of the hospital’s White Hat Society, which is a group formed six years ago to recognize retired nurses. Joining the group were Shirley Scarborough, who worked at the hospital for 32 years, and Thelma Walls, who worked at the hospital on and off for 30 years.
Texas Health Resources chief nursing executive and senior vice president Joan Clark, M.S.N., R.N., NEA-BC, CENP, FACHE, FAAN, also called on nurses to realize the gravity of nursing’s history. “It’s a calling, not a job,” she said. “It does us well to think of the legacy of all the nurses before us.”
