Texas Health Cleburne Offers Simple Tool That Could Save a Life|
CLEBURNE, Texas — In an emergency, could your loved ones provide detailed medical information about your health conditions and medications to first responders?
Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Cleburne is providing Vials of L.I.F.E (Lifesaving Information for Emergencies) to members of the community. The Vial of L.I.F.E is a life-saving tool that lists medical history and information, such as current allergies, medications and emergency contact numbers. The Vials of L.I.F.E. are available to the community at no cost.
People in the community are urged to:
First responders are trained to look for the vial in the refrigerator door if they see the red sticker on the front door. First responders then bring the vial with the patient to the emergency room.
“Texas Health Cleburne is committed to providing quality care in a timely manner,” said Carol Olivier, R.N.C., B.S., infection prevention practitioner and faith community nursing coordinator at Texas Health Cleburne. “The Vial of L.I.F.E., when filled out properly, can give medical staff vital medical information in an instant, even when the patient cannot. In an emergency minutes matter and having that information is crucial.”
The Vial of L.I.F.E project is just one initiative of Texas Health Cleburne’s Faith Community Nursing program. Through the program area nurses are trained to work within their churches to help improve the health of the people in area communities.
“Filling out the information in the Vial of L.I.F.E. and posting the sticker just takes a few minutes,” said Blake Kretz, FACHE, hospital president. “But taking those few minutes before a crisis could save lives in a medical emergency.”
