A screening mammogram is a low-dose x-ray image of the breast that is used to aid in the early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer.
The Kupferle Comprehensive Breast Center uses current digital mammography equipment. This allows for a faster, higher quality patient exam.
As a Softer Mammogram ProviderSM and a Pink Ribbon Facility, exams are done with a MammoPad® breast cushion – a soft, foam pad that is placed between the mammography machine and your breast.
The American Cancer Society recommends that all women over the age of 40 have a screening mammogram every year.
In preparation for your screening mammogram:
- Do not wear talcum powder or lotion under your arms or on your breasts on the day of your exam.
- Describe any breast symptoms or problems to the technologist performing the exam.
- If possible, obtain any prior mammograms and bring them with you to your appointment.
After your screening mammogram, you should receive your results in the mail in about one week.
