Stand on one foot for 30 seconds, then switch and stand on the other.

How to do it

Embrace your inner flamingo! Stand close to a wall or sturdy chair. Begin by transferring your weight to your right foot, lifting your left foot a few inches off the ground, and tucking it in close to your body. Distribute the weight on your right foot so you feel balanced on all four corners of your foot. Fix your gaze on one spot (something that's not moving), breathe deeply, and keep your balance for about 30 seconds. Hold on to the wall or chair if you need to. Switch sides and repeat.

Why it matters

Our sense of balance tends to decline as we age. Good balance is important for many everyday activities, including going up and down stairs. A strong sense of balance also helps prevent you from tripping and falling, so making like a funky flamingo can help keep you safe as you go about your day-to-day routine.
