Dr Jose Vazquez completed his Medical Doctorate at Universidad Central del Caribe in Puerto Rico, then completed his psychiatry residency at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. He has worked in a multitude of behavioral health settings including 10+ years as an emergency inpatient psychiatrist, 5+ years as an inpatient consult liaison psychiatrist and 4+ years as an outpatient psychiatrist treating adolescents, adults and intellectually disabled forensic patients.
Over the course of his training and career, Dr Vazquez developed a passion for treating complex mental health disorders with a particular interest in psychotic and personality disorders. He has treated all ages from adolescents to geriatric patients, and has treated a wide variety of diagnoses including early onset schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in young adolescents, forensic patients with concomitant intellectual disabilities with mood and psychotic disorders, and chronic schizophrenia to dementia in geriatric patients.
Dr Vazquez believes in a compassionate, kind and respectful clinical approach coupled with evidence-based best practices to deliver the best mental health care for his patients. He is a strong advocate for equality for those dealing with mental disorders and strives to eliminate social stigmas and barriers to care.
