- Dr. Robert Smitherman chose internal medicine for its broad complex scope and challenges, and because of his desire to form meaningful, long-lasting relationships with his patients. He has been an academic clinician and teacher in Texas since 2001 and has served the Arlington community since 2008.
Dr. Smitherman is board-certified in internal medicine. He earned his medical degree and completed his internal medicine residency at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He served as an assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine-Ben Taub General Hospital for six years prior to setting down roots in North Texas. Dr. Smitherman’s areas of interest and focus include the treatment of chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and the promotion of cardiovascular health and wellness. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the Texas Medical Association. When not practicing medicine and with his patients, Dr. Smitherman enjoys spending time with his wife and children, along with numerous outdoor activities.
