Program Director
Paul Gray, M.D., FACS is a board-certified general surgeon who specializes in abdominal wall reconstruction and hernia surgery with an emphasis on robotic minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Gray is passionate about excellence in patient care and surgical training, and derives great joy and satisfaction in working with residents as they take the next steps in their careers. After serving as the residency's associate program directors from 2022 to 2024, and interim program director from 2024 to 2025, he was appointed the permanent program director in July 2025.
Dr. Gray received his bachelor of science degree from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee. He attended medical school at University of Louisville School of Medicine in Kentucky and completed his residency in general surgery in 2007 at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.
Bethany Malone, M.D., FACS
Associate Program Director
Bethany Malone, M.D., FACS is board-certified through both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. She practices broad-based colon and rectal surgery, providing endoscopic, open, laparoscopic, robotic, and transanal treatment modalities for diseases of the colon, rectum and anus.
Dr. Malone earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry with a minor in anthropology from Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts, and then attended medical school at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in Brooklyn, New York. She completed her general surgery residency at Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio, and completed her colon and rectal surgery residency at Allegheny Health Network based in both Erie and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Malone serves as chair of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons Professional Outreach Committee, as well as treasurer of the International Society of University Colon and Rectal Surgeons. She has presented at regional, national and international conferences, and has published multiple journal articles and textbook chapters. Her expertise has been called upon by Forbes, Healthline, and CNN Health. Dr. Malone has served as associate program director for the Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth General Surgery Residency since 2023.
Avafia Dossa, M.D.
Associate Program Director
Avafia Dossa, M.D. has been a board-certified general surgeon since 2018. He specializes in endoscopic, laparoscopic and robot-assisted laparoscopic surgeries for patients of all ages. Dr. Dossa’s clinical interests include the surgical treatment of acute gastrointestinal conditions and trauma. He currently serves as an acute care surgeon and member of the teaching faculty at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth. Since 2020, he has also served as a proctor for the da Vinci® Robotic Surgery system.
Dr. Dossa earned his medical degree at the University of Toledo College of Medicine in Ohio. He completed his general surgery residency at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Dossa is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of the Eastern Association of the Surgery of Trauma, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and Texas Medical Association. Away from the operating room, he enjoys traveling, playing tennis and cooking. Dr. Dossa speaks fluent French.
