A dedication to working at
recovery is essential for the best results from joint replacement
surgery. Patients will receive written instructions concerning
physical therapy when they leave the hospital, and the patient's
physician will refer them to either home therapy services or send
them to an outpatient rehabilitation center.
Patients will learn exercises they
should do at home, and a commitment to these exercises will help
patients recover faster.
Patients may want to participate
in the aquatic program offered at Texas Health Presbyterian
Hospital Plano. In this program, participants are led through a
series of specially designed exercises that, with the aid of the
water's buoyancy and resistance, can help improve joint
flexibility and muscular strength.
The warm water and gentle
movements can also help relieve pain and stiffness. A physician's
permission is required to participate in the class.
