Pick a "DAISY" to recognize a nurse
for compassionate care!

Members of the Barnes family established the DAISY Foundation in 2000 as a tribute to 33-year-old Patrick Barnes, who passed away from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). Patrick's memory lives on through the dedicated and selfless work of his family and the DAISY Foundation.

DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem.

The Barnes family was impressed and grateful for the level of compassion Patrick's nurses displayed at his bedside, every day. Nominate a nurse for the DAISY AwardTo honor Patrick and the nurses who cared for him during his eight-week battle with ITP, they created the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

Currently, about 1,000 health care organizations worldwide have committed to honoring their nurses with the DAISY Award.  National organizations such as the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) have partnered with the DAISY Foundation and continue to support the DAISY Award.

Nurses at four Texas Health facilities are honored for outstanding work with the DAISY Award. Take time to reflect on those nurses who have gone above and beyond while delivering care at the bedside.
