New facility to add 12 labor and delivery rooms, new breast center and 10 ED beds

DENTON, Texas — Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton will construct a new $128 million building with mothers, babies and families in mind, as the hospital expands to serve the rapidly growing Denton County area.

The 160,000-square-foot building will include a labor and delivery center housing 12 labor and delivery rooms, 30 postpartum and antepartum beds and two dedicated surgical suites for C-sections to ensure availability of an operating room for urgent or planned surgical deliveries. It also will include a new breast center and spaces for physical therapy, cardiac rehab, the sleep center and support services. The project will add 10 emergency department beds to the existing 28.

“The design of this space and the experience we want to provide to the community will have direct input from our consumers and our dedicated care team so that the experience our patients feel when they are going through their care journey exceeds their expectations,” said Kathi Cox, senior vice president, Integrated Experience, at Texas Health.

The new building continues expansion of the hospital’s women’s and infants’ services, which also included a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit that opened Feb. 12.

“As the sole provider of OB and NICU services in Denton, we are especially excited to build a new facility for our patients,” said Jeff Reecer, president of Texas Health Denton.

Because of area growth, the hospital expects deliveries to increase by 40 percent over the next 10 years. The new building will help accommodate this growth, Reecer said.

The building is expected to open by mid-year 2022.

“This project supports the Texas Health Mission of improving the lives of the people in the communities we serve,” Reecer said.  “We want to continue to provide the best, most modern services for our families and babies.”
