The recognition acknowledges and honors individuals who are deemed by their peers and the magazine’s senior editors to be the most influential in the healthcare industry, in terms of leadership and impact, in a time of worldwide pandemic.

Berdan’s steady, community-focused leadership has enabled Texas Health to meet community healthcare needs while maintaining a strong financial position during the pandemic, said C. John Wilder, Texas Health Board of Trustees chair.

“Barclay has capably served Texas Health for 35 years, including seven years as CEO. Under his leadership, Texas Health has engaged in collaborative partnerships to address emerging healthcare issues and better suit consumers’ needs and preferences,” Wilder said. “He has been a champion of change, leading the transformation of Texas Health from a system focused on sick care to one that revolves around the health and well-being of consumers.”

With 45 years in healthcare leadership, Berdan became CEO of Texas Health in 2014 after serving as chief operating officer. He was previously senior executive vice president for system alignment and performance and served as president of Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth. He joined Texas Health in 1986 as vice president/administrator for Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southwest Fort Worth, overseeing the construction and opening of the hospital.

“It’s an honor to be recognized on behalf of all the people of Texas Health. Their personal and professional sacrifice and dedication have inspired me through this long season of pandemic. North Texas is safer and healthier because of everyone who serves our health system,” Berdan said.
