Facility recognized as High Performing, the highest award a hospital can earn

DENTON, Texas — Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton was designated a 2023-2024 High Performing Hospital for Maternity Care (Uncomplicated Pregnancy), according to an analysis by U.S. News & World Report. This is the highest award a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals for Maternity Care.

The hospital opened a renovated and expanded Center for Women in 2022 as part of a $128 million project.

Best Hospitals for Maternity Care is an annual evaluation designed to help expectant parents, in consultation with their prenatal care team, make informed decisions about where to receive maternity care that best meets their family’s needs.

“We are grateful to receive this recognition,” said Jeff Reecer, president of Texas Health Denton. “We are committed to bringing compassionate, quality care to patients in Denton and Denton County. We are partners with our patients and honored that this relationship often includes welcoming new babies to their families.”

The High Performing designation is measured by factors such as newborn complication rates and indicates performance that is well above average on a range of quality measures including scheduled early deliveries, C-sections rates in lower-risk pregnancies and transparency on racial/ethnic disparities, among other measures.

Texas Health Denton has been continually working to meet the needs of families in one of the fastest-growing regions in the United States. In 2022, the hospital opened a renovated and expanded Center for Women as part of a $128 million project.

As the only Level III designated neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in the city, Texas Health Denton offers advanced neonatal care to the tiniest patients. In 2022, 2,117 babies were delivered at the hospital, making it Denton County’s largest provider of obstetrical services.

U.S. News evaluated hospitals from across the nation that provide labor and delivery services and submitted detailed data to the publication for analysis; 680 hospitals, an all-time high, participated in this year’s survey. Fewer than half — 46% — of all hospitals that offer maternity care and participated in the survey received a High Performing designation.
