Texas Health Fort Worth among fewer than 1 percent of U.S. hospitals with five designations

FORT WORTH, Texas — Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth received its fifth American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet® designation on Monday, March 25.

Texas Health Fort Worth

Texas Health Fort Worth is one of 65 Magnet organizations in the Lone Star state.

“This fifth Magnet designation is proof that we all have a relentless focus on excellence in patient care,” said Jennifer Chavez, D.N.P., R.N., ACNP-BC, NEA-BC, CCRN, chief nursing officer, to a cheering audience of about 100 employees at the hospital. “Congratulations to you all — we have achieved this only because of the work you do every day.”

Hospital President Joseph DeLeon said that fewer than 1% of hospitals in the U.S. — and just six others in Texas — have received five Magnet designations.

The Magnet committee recognized Texas Health Fort Worth for four exemplars:

  • Vascular access team achievements
  • More than 80% of R.N.s maintain bachelor of science in nursing degrees
  • Ambulatory arrival to departure time exceeding benchmarks
  • Ambulatory patient satisfaction exceeding benchmarks

“The exemplars you have today are because of the type of deep care and concern you have for patient care,” DeLeon said after the announcement. “Magnet gives you a lot of tools to create culture. You have taken these tools and are using them to take care of people better, to achieve better outcomes.”

Texas Health Fort Worth is one of 65 Magnet organizations in Texas, said David Marshall, Magnet commissioner, after he announced the honor.

The designation, which hospitals re-apply for every four years recognizes quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in nursing practice. It also identifies environments where nurses and clinical staff work collaboratively within a positive culture that supports new ideas and evidence-based work practices.
