New Diana Health program provides innovative approach to childbirth

ALLEN, Texas — Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Allen is joining forces with Diana Health, a network of women’s health practices, to enhance and expand women’s services. This collaboration brings innovative, personalized care to pregnant women based on preference for their labor experience.

With this new care model, Texas Health Allen obstetric patients will be cared for 24/7 by onsite OB hospitalists and certified nurse-midwives (CNMs) in the labor & delivery unit.

Having a baby is a very personal experience and the new care model with both OB-GYNs and CNMs provides an additional option for individualized, comprehensive care for women, including prenatal and postpartum care, labor and delivery services and gynecological care.

In Texas, two kinds of midwives are available to support women through their birth experience: CNMs and certified professional midwives/licensed midwives (CPMs). They both play crucial roles in providing healthcare and support during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care. However, CNMs, which will provide care at Texas Health Allen, are independent health care providers who have received a bachelor's degree in nursing and either a master's or doctorate degree in midwifery.

The focus of this program will be on shared decision-making and empowering women. To help with that vision, Texas Health Allen has installed planning boards in each room to encourage women to actively participate in their care. The boards are a visual aid that help the care team share information and preferences for the mother, which aims to support communication and teamwork.

“We are excited to work closely with Diana Health to enhance women's services in the community. This collaboration provides women with an additional option for high-quality, personalized care,” said Amanda Thrash, president of Texas Health Allen. “We want to help our patients achieve the birth experience they desire while focusing on their safety and comfort in a suite style setting.”

In addition to the collaboration in the labor & delivery unit, Diana Health has opened a women’s health office on the Texas Health Allen campus. Diana Health offers personalized care planning, classes, mental health support, and health and wellness coaching. Virtual visits and a personalized mobile app where patients can manage their care, message their providers and log their personal care preferences are also available.

This collaboration marks Diana Health’s first practice in Texas, building off successful practices in Tennessee and Florida.

“We are thrilled to introduce our model of care to the women and families of the Allen and greater North Texas communities. We look forward to providing compassionate, empowering care for women to this incredible community,” said Kate Condliffe, CEO and co-founder of Diana Health. “At Diana Health, we are honored to support and empower all women to live healthier, more fulfilling lives. We couldn’t have found a better and more collaborative hospital than Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Allen.”
