DENTON, Texas — Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton was designated a 2024-2025 High Performing Hospital for Maternity Care. This is U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals for Maternity Care highest award.
The High Performing designation recognizes quality maternity care as measured by factors such as severe unexpected newborn complication rates, birthing-friendly practices and transparency on racial/ethnic disparities.

“Texas Health Denton has long been a trusted member of the Denton community, connecting families to compassionate, quality care,” said Jeff Reecer, president of Texas Health Denton.
“We partner with our patients for a lifetime of health and well-being and are honored that this relationship often includes welcoming new babies to their families.”
In 2023, more than 1,700 babies were delivered at Texas Health Denton.
Texas Health Denton is Denton County’s largest provider of obstetrical services and the city’s only provider of obstetrical and neonatal intensive care services.
In 2022, the hospital opened an expanded Center for Women as part of a $128 million project meant to meet the needs of families in one of the fastest-growing regions in the United States. Texas Health Denton is recognized as a Level III maternal care facility by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). As such, the hospital provides comprehensive care for pregnant women, including programs focused on healthy pregnancies through breastfeeding support, education and noninvasive therapies to prevent unnecessary C-sections, as well as medical and surgical treatments for complex obstetrical conditions.
The hospital also has a Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), meaning it provides comprehensive care for infants born at all gestational ages and birth weights, with mild to complex critical conditions or medical problems.
“We are proud of this achievement,” said Summer Hughes, M.S.N., R.N., NEA-BC, RNC-OB, C-EFM, director of women and infant services at Texas Health Denton. “We are committed to providing high-quality, comprehensive care to all mothers and newborns in Denton County.” U.S. News & World Report evaluated 817 hospitals across the United States. Only half of those evaluated for the 2025 ratings were recognized as Best Hospitals for Maternity Care.
The publication began evaluating maternity care hospitals in 2021, rating medical facilities that provide labor and delivery services and submit detailed data to the publication for analysis. Best Hospitals for Maternity Care designations assist expectant parents, in consultation with their prenatal care team, in making informed decisions about where to receive maternity services that best meets their family’s needs.
The Best Hospitals for Maternity Care methodology is based entirely on objective measures of quality, such as C-section rates in lower-risk pregnancies and exclusive breast-feeding rates. For more information, visit Best Hospitals for Maternity Care.
