KAUFMAN, Texas — Building on its commitment to meet the healthcare needs of those living in rapidly expanding Kaufman County, Texas Health Resources is investing in a significant renovation and expansion of the Emergency Department at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Kaufman, in addition to the construction on the new Texas Health Forney hospital which is progressing nearby.

The renovation, scheduled to begin in late 2026, will add more than 5,000 square feet to the current Emergency Department, more than doubling its current size and enabling caregivers to evaluate and treat patients more quickly. The project will include additional exam rooms and a separate, designated waiting area that offers a comfortable, private environment for Emergency Department patients and their loved ones.

“Located in one of the nation’s fastest-growing counties, our Emergency Department has steadily seen a rise in the number of people turning to us for emergency care – patients cared for in our ED grows each year and there’s no sign of it slowing,” said Toya White, president of Texas Health Kaufman and Texas Health Hospital Forney. “This expansion will allow us to keep pace with the community’s growth by increasing capacity and improving patient flow while providing patients with a more spacious, comfortable environment.”

Construction on the project will begin later this year, with completion expected in 2028.

Since first opening its doors in 1979, Texas Health Kaufman has grown to an 81-bed hospital serving the communities of Kaufman, Crandall, Forney, Gun Barrel City and Mabank. The hospital offers a wide range of services, including acute care, rehabilitation and imaging, and has been recognized as Pathway to Excellence hospital three times by the American Nurses Credentialing Center for its commitment to creating a positive practice environment.

The Emergency Department renovation is just one of the many ways that Texas Health is expanding in Kaufman County and across North Texas to ensure access to health services keeps pace with the region’s growth.

Texas Health Hospital Forney, the city’s first full-service, acute-care hospital, and an on-campus medical office building are slated for completion in 2027. The hospital will include an emergency room, surgical suites, labor and delivery services, advanced imaging, and 64 patient beds upon opening, with room for future growth.

Texas Health Surgery Center Forney, a joint venture between Texas Heath Resources, SCA Health and local surgeons, opened in late September, offering patients innovative orthopedic, podiatry and pain management treatments in a modern, patient-friendly environment.

There also are plans for additional primary care, urgent care and behavioral health services in Kaufman County.

“Kaufman County residents shouldn’t have to drive long distances to access quality, comprehensive care,” White said. “From preventive and specialty care to emergency and surgical needs, these investments will provide residents convenient access to essential health services closer to home.”

The Kaufman County expansion is part of Texas Health’s broader growth strategy, which includes investments in Texas Health Dallas, continued collaboration with UT Southwestern, new hospitals and expansion projects across the system, including several new patient towers.
