MCKINNEY, Texas — As part of its ongoing pledge to meet North Texas’s rapidly growing needs, Texas Health Resources plans to build a new hospital and medical campus in north McKinney, a major step in its continued investment in expanding and elevating care across the region.
Expected to open in 2028, the hospital will feature 60 beds initially with plans to double in capacity to accommodate for future community growth. It will be built, along with a medical office building, on 51 acres of land near U.S. 75 and Laud Howell Parkway in northeast McKinney and serve residents of north McKinney, Anna, Melissa, Princeton and surrounding areas.
The announcement comes as construction is already underway on a new Texas Health hospital in Forney, along with several other major expansion projects across the system.
The new hospital in McKinney will feature a Women’s Services Center, including labor and delivery and a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), as well as an Emergency Department, surgical suites, cardiology services and advanced imaging.
"The pace of our expansion reflects the urgent need for accessible, quality healthcare in this flourishing region and our commitment to the North Texas community," said Barclay Berdan, FACHE, CEO of Texas Health. "This new facility will provide advanced medical care and emergency services to thousands of local families who deserve convenient, quality treatment close to home."
Texas Health, a faith-based nonprofit health system that cares for more patients in North Texas than any other provider, currently has 29 hospital locations across the Metroplex and more than 420 points of access.
Investing in a new hospital in north Collin County is essential to meeting the demands of explosive population growth in this region. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the area includes some of the nation's fastest-growing cities: Princeton, Anna, Melissa and Celina.
“We are proud to welcome Texas Health Resources to north McKinney as they invest in one of the fastest growing areas of our city,” said McKinney Mayor Bill Cox. “McKinney is a place where families put down roots, and access to exceptional healthcare is essential. This new hospital will serve our residents and neighbors across Collin County with advanced emergency and specialty care close to home, strengthening the quality of life that makes McKinney such a special place to live.”
While the new medical campus will be the health system’s first in north Collin County, Texas Health has long been a part of the Collin County community with Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Allen, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano and Texas Health Hospital Frisco, which have also recently undergone or are currently undergoing enhancements.
Texas Health Frisco is building out the hospital’s seventh floor, which will add 30 new patient rooms by fall 2026. Texas Health Plano recently opened a six-story garage and has begun construction of a new eight-story tower that will add 168 additional beds, an upgraded Emergency Department and enhanced specialty care in neuroscience, heart and vascular and digestive health. And in the last five years, Texas Health Allen completed the largest renovation and construction in the hospital’s history, increasing the hospital’s beds and space for a variety of service lines, including a new inpatient surgical unit and dedicated rehabilitation gym.
In addition to its hospitals, Texas Health serves Collin County residents through a broad range of services, including primary care, sports medicine, urgent care, an ambulatory surgery center and independent providers aligned with Southwestern Health Resources, Texas Health’s clinically integrated network with UT Southwestern Medical Center.
“With a proven history of commitment to Collin County, Texas Health is continuously exploring new opportunities to improve the health of the people in the communities were serve,” said Josh Floren, FACHE, Hospital Channel chief operating officer for Texas Health. “This new hospital will further complement our existing access points while significantly expanding our capacity to deliver even more advanced services and meet growing community needs.”
Beyond hospitals, Texas Health is also bringing additional healthcare services to growing communities with convenient services like Breeze Urgent Care Centers across the Metroplex, and Quick Care Virtual Visits that offer patients convenient access to urgent medical care via phone, tablet or computer.
And through Texas Health Connect, consumers can easily find and schedule care without the hassle of downloading an app or logging in.
“No one wants to struggle to remember a password or have to drive far when you or your loved one is ill or injured and needs help,” Berdan said. “Our goal is to meet patients where they are with an array of services to meet their needs, whether it’s a hospital closer to home or care that’s just a phone or video call away.”
